“The world’s favorite season is the spring. All things seem possible in May.”
— Edwin Way Teale
What is May Faire?
Spring is a season of awakening — a time when the world stirs from winter’s slumber into a landscape of renewal, rejuvenation, and rebirth. At Waldorf School Orange County, we welcome this vibrant season each year with our beloved May Faire, an outdoor festival rooted in both ancient tradition and Waldorf philosophy.
Modeled on May Day celebrations that span centuries and continents, May Faire is observed by Waldorf schools around the globe. It connects students with the greater community and celebrates the rhythms of nature that form a vital part of Waldorf education. Honoring the seasons helps our students develop reverence for the Earth as a living being — one we both depend upon and strive to respect.
This festival is more than a joyful gathering — it is a curriculum event, reflecting the core values of our school. On May Faire day, we dress in white or soft pastels to reflect the brightness of spring. Children wear handmade flower crowns and weave colorful ribbons around the Maypole, embodying the beauty and harmony of nature. Families gather to enjoy music, games, crafts, and delicious homemade treats, sharing laughter and community spirit under the open sky.
May Faire is a celebration that unites us — with one another, with the changing seasons, and with the generations before us who have danced the same steps. It serves as a heartfelt reminder to express gratitude for the planet we call home and to cherish the cycles of life that connect us all.
Thank you for joining us in this joyful and meaningful celebration of spring and new beginnings. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
